Now Open: See an EV Power a Home at Oregon’s Only Sigenergy Experience Center

Free demonstrations begin October 29. Book your visit below.

This summer, we told you about something new coming to Neil Kelly Solar: a working Sigenergy Experience Center where you could watch an electric vehicle send power back into a home. It’s here. Starting October 29, Portland-area homeowners and businesses can book a free demonstration and see it for themselves.

It’s just the second Sigenergy Experience Center on the West Coast, and the only one in Oregon.

What you’ll see

An EV parked and charging at the Neil Kelly Sigenergy Experience Center in Portland, Oregon

At the heart of the center is the Sigenergy V2X, a bidirectional EV charger. Most chargers move electricity one way: from the grid into your car. The V2X moves it both ways, so a compatible EV can act as a backup battery for your home.

During your visit, you’ll see that happen in real time, and you’ll see how the V2X works alongside rooftop solar and home battery storage as one connected system.

Why it matters heading into winter

For many Oregonians, power outages are an all-too-familiar part of the season. Winter storms, wildfires, and other events can leave homes and businesses without electricity. Paired with home energy storage, an EV connected to the V2X can help keep the lights on and essential appliances running when the grid goes down.

On sunny days, the system can also charge your EV with power from your own solar panels, so you rely less on the grid and get more out of the energy your system already produces.

Not sure if your EV is compatible? We’ll check.

Bidirectional charging depends on your vehicle’s make, model, and model year. The list of compatible EVs is growing as automakers expand the capability, but it’s still evolving. That’s why our team checks your specific vehicle against the latest compatibility information before recommending a V2X system.

When you book, have your EV’s make, model, and year handy.

What to expect at your visit

  • Where: 804 N. Alberta Street, Portland, Oregon 97230 (in our back parking lot off of Albina St.)
  • How long: 30-60 minutes
  • Cost: Free
  • Who you’ll meet: Jason Benfit, Neil Kelly Solar Solutions Principal

You’ll see the system running, and you’ll have time to talk through solar, storage, backup power, and whether your EV is a good fit. Think of it as a clear, honest look at what this technology can and can’t do for your home.

“The future of energy is about making the power you have work harder for you,” says Jason Benfit, Principal of Solar Solutions for Neil Kelly. “With solar, storage and automobiles working together, we can help Oregon families build a more resilient, independent energy future.”
